Marketing Services > Branding > Wordmark
A wordmark is part of your organizations corporate identity. Also referred to as a logotype it is the graphic representation of your name, a product name, or an institution. It is yet another piece of the branding pie. At Deckers our goal is to create a wordmark which instills confidence and allows your organization to be easily identified.
A corporation may have a legal name of XYZ Foo Inc., but do business as XYZ. The doing business as part of the name is the first component that requires the graphic treatment. Also, organizations need to be aware that in many countries a wordmark may be a registered trademark, thereby making it protected intellectual property.
Examples of popular wordmarks include: IBM, VW, Ford, Microsoft, and DKNY.
At Deckers we have a set of criteria we use when developing a wordmark. These include avoiding the free fonts that ship with all computers. You should have a type-face that sets you apart from your competitors. The font-face should scale from tiny to large without any distortion.
